Apostille for a Swiss commercial register extract

Foreign employers, universities and registries routinely ask for an apostilled commercial register extract. Here is exactly how it works for this document — and how we take the whole errand off your hands.

Where this document comes from — and which chancellery

The commercial register is cantonal: the extract comes from the register office of the canton where the company is registered, and the apostille from that same canton’s chancellery. One thing catches most people out — the free printout you can download from the online register is not a certifiable document. You need the certified extract signed by the registrar.

Original or certified copy?

Neither leaves your hands: a notary establishes a certified true copy from your uploaded PDF or photo, and the apostille is affixed to that copy — included in the price. If a destination exceptionally insists on the apostilled original, tell us and we organise it by registered mail.

Translation often required

An apostille authenticates, it does not translate. If the receiving authority also wants a certified translation of your commercial register extract, mention it in the order notes — our partner network delivers both together.

The mistake that gets files refused

Sending the free online printout. It cannot be apostilled — there is no signature to authenticate. We order the certified extract for you if you do not already have one; add it in the order notes rather than discovering the problem three days in.

Frequently asked questions

Our company is registered in Zug but we operate from Zurich. Which canton?
Zug — the apostille follows the register that holds the entry, not the place of business. If you are unsure, the canton is stated on the extract itself.
Which countries accept an apostilled commercial register extract?
All 130 Hague Convention Contracting Parties — from Germany to Brazil to China. For non-members (UAE, Qatar, Egypt…), the consular chain replaces the apostille; order normally and we quote the embassy stage first.
How long for a commercial register extract?
Standard 1–2 business days from receipt, mostly the chancellery’s own turnaround. Same-day express doubles the service price and jumps every queue.
